Carnoustie Championship Golf Course
Yards: 6,941 Holes: 18 Par: 72 With sandy subsoil and open, rolling terrain, Carnoustie's links were patently intended for the game of golf. It was James Braid who designed the course that we know today, although some of his holes were reckoned too weak for competitive play and the notorious "sting in the tail", Carnoustie's final three holes, was introduced to compensate. Now deemed the "toughest links course in the world", Carnoustie is a significant challenge even on a mild day. The 6th, Hogan's Alley, is particularly well known as one of the world's great par fives. If you want to experience the very best in Scottish golf, a visit to the Carnoustie Championship course is a must. As a test of golfing skill, the Carnoustie Championship course is unsurpassed, so if you want to really stretch your abilities and take your game to a new level, make sure you tackle the course as part of your golfing break.
The Castle Course, St Andrews
The Castle Course is the seventh course at the Home of Golf. Set on a rugged cliff line overlooking the ancient town of St Andrews, the course combines breath-taking views with a memorable golfing challenge. Designed by David Kidd, creator of Bandon Dunes on the West Coast of America, the Castle Course won several international awards in its first year of opening and was included within the prestigious Golf Digest Top 100 rankings almost immediately. The course was officially opened for play on July 2, 2008 by HRH the Duke of York and has proved popular with golfers looking for a new and exciting test of golf in St Andrews. The par 71 course has five tees on every hole and the length ranges from 5300 yards to 6789 from the boxes. The award winning Castle Course Clubhouse nestles into the landscape on Kinkell Ness and offers spectacular views over St Andrews Bay and the town itself. The clubhouse has a restaurant, shop and changing and shower facilities.
