History
Plas Cilybebyll can trace its own history of an estate and inhabitants back to the beginning of the 15th Century, and in 1838 it was recorded as one of the largest estates in the local district. The main façade of the house evolved from major remodeling work around 1840 creating a south-facing Victorian style property with an ode to a French Chateau.
The work to the building was primarily undertaken by a Henry Leach who administered the estate during the early 19th Century. Frances Edward Leach inherited the estate on the death of his father in 1848 and changed his name to Lloyd in 1849 by Royal Charter in order not to forfeit his inheritance.
The Lloyd family was still in residence in the late 19th Century and Herbert Lloyd a prominent, well liked and respected local figure was presented with an oil portrait, for his contribution to various committees, which hangs in the drawing room to this day.
More recently this splendid country residence has been sympathetically extended to provide modern 21st Century facilities, but without compromising or disrupting the original character of the house. This includes the addition of the fantastic function space - the Petit Chateau.
A truly historic estate and fine example of architecture that is a prominent feature of the local landscape.
